Heather's Story of Hope

So many of us have been touched by cancer in our lives. Whether it is a family member, a friend, or perhaps ourselves - it is a curse that seems to have no boundaries. It is indiscriminate in it's chosen host and wreaks havoc in its wake. When I was younger, the 'Big C' was considered a death sentence. Advancements in medicine have made great strides in fighting the many different types of cancer, but until there is a cure for all cancers the battle must rage on.

I recently received an email from this lovely lady. Her name is Heather Von St. James and she is about to celebrate a very special anniversary. She is coming up on 10 years as a cancer survivor. When she was just 36 years old, her world was turned upside down by a devastating diagnosis of 'malignant pleural mesothelioma' (caused by exposure to asbestos) and she was given just 15 months to live. With an unwavering dose of determination and strength, she sought out the latest treatments and the best doctors to find her way through this unacceptable prognosis.

Nearly a decade has past and Heather has made it her mission to share her personal story of hope and encouragement to others. The power of knowledge is on her side and she now spends her time  spreading awareness and advocating for other patients.

Heather has started a new blog series taking us through her 10 years of survivorship which can be seen at:

Alongside her loving husband and daughter, Heather is spreading the word about mesothelioma with the hope that it will encourage others who may be diagnosed with this disease.

If you would like to follow Heather on her journey, find her at:

Heather is such an inspiration to so many. Please join her in reaching out to others about this horrible, but preventable disease.
